How large a car do you feel you need? And do you tend to prefer the styling of Cadillacs or Lincolns lately?

The Cadillac ATS and CTS are best if you want the car to corner especially well. This doesn't seem to be among your priorities, so the best fit is probably the Lincoln MKZ, which still handles well. Unless you want the car to be powerful or feel the need for all-wheel-drive, my favorite MKZ is the hybrid. You'll find my review in the "more about" below the photo.

If you need more rear legroom than the MKZ offers, then check out the MKS (an older design that doesn't perform as well, but that should be deeply discounted) and the Cadillac XTS. Both are compared in my most recent XTS review.

If I've misjudged what you're looking for, and you do want the American car that best competes with BMWs and such, then look at the Cadillac CTS. These are priced too high, but some dealers are now offering the 2014 for $15,000 below sticker.
