The 2010 Equinox has a lot of reports of transmission failures and burning oil. The 2009 was more reliable. I don't know why someone would buy one over a Honda CR-V and most other compact crossovers. It isn't a horrible car, but you can do better for a similar price.

2009 and 2010 were the only reliable years for the Edge. 2007-2008 had transmission failures and engine stalling. Meh, I like the Equinox more.

They aren't really fantastic cars reliability-wise or driving-wise so I encourage you to test drive some other cars. The Toyota RAV4 is the most reliable compact SUV and is a solid-feeling SUV. 2009 or newer are good years with more features like a backup camera, a new engine, and smart key. The V6 RAV4 was super fast, 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds. Really comfortable car, too.
