The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

maclark014

I want an SUV with 4wd. I want it to be reliable enough to drive everyday and take the beating of the normal use. I want 4wd for the occasional snow or ice storms. I may tow with it. I like the looks of ford explorers and jeep grand cherokees. It must haveleather seats (relatively speaking )

Priorities: Reliability & durability / Cargo capacity / Ride smoothness

Need minimum of 5 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 100000
Maximum age: 10 years

Maximum price: US $ 10000

You've literally described every mid-size SUV on the market

I'd suggest 2010 or newer Subaru Outback - more relible than the previous version, can tow ~ 3000 lbs and can be found with (P)Leather

To get a Grand Cherokee for under $10,000 you're looking at the previous version i.e. pre 2010.
Same is true with the Explorer. you're looknig at the previous model. Instead consider the Ford Flex.

A Toyota 4Runner might be a good option too. Maybe a 2004-2007. I owned a 1998 4Runner a long time ago and it was a great car, except for the extremely bumpy ride, which isn't what you're looking for. Maybe a 2006-ish Honda Pilot if you can't get a 2009 for under $10k?

You may be limited by towing capacity in the smaller, entry level CUVs. Besides their AWD systems from a couple of years ago in your price range is a slip-grip type. The rear wheels on some are not really grip at all and won't carry the vehicle I'd the fronts are spinning. The tow capacity is l I mites to around 3,500 lbs which will tow most things except for a heavier trailer or bigger boat/camper.
