The 2014 and up Subaru Forester is too new to be available in your price range. So your best bet is probably the Mazda CX-5.

The 2013 and up Toyota RAV4 is pretty sporty, but a little rough around the edges. Worth a look.

I don't personally care for how the Honda CR-V looks or drives, but many people like them. I don't know how old you'll have to go to find one in your price range, as they hold their value very well.
