Touareg TDI

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Curious to what others think of the Touareg. Interested in a 2012 or newer. I want a diesel despite the controversy over the TDI motor. I own a TDI Sportwagen today. I am a BIG fan of torque and I need a vehicle capable of pulling heavy loads. But I have no use or interest in a truck due to poor fuel economy and, well, I rarely need a truck.

I am a bit concerned about the transmission in these vehicles. I test drove one of them with mixed feelings. I feel tha the transmission in a diesel (in any car for that matter) has much to do with whether it is enjoyable to drive or whether it is annoying to drive. For example, the sequential shifter in my TDI Sportwagen really makes this diesel shine.

We own a 2015 Audi Q5 TDI, and the 3.0 V-6 TDi motor is absolutely sublime! SO much torque, and with no disrespect to your 4-cylinder TDI, the V-6 is in another uinverse altogether with regards to sound, refinement and power.

Should be a buyer's market right now, as there's still no official response from VAG regarding the final disposition of these vehicles, so if you can find the right deal, I say go for it.

FWIW, our Q5 has averaged 31 mpg in 30K miles, and it will tow 7700 lbs. A friend's Touareg is averaging about 24.4 mpg overall, and is nothing like as quick as our Q5 - nor is the warranty as good.
