The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Quiet and fun to drive. usually one person in it, but will also transport kids and a boat. Thought I'd get an MDX, But feel its kind of small for the family trips. now considering a QX 56 or Armada, or suburban. Don't want to feel like i'm in a land barge, as I will be driving to work with it. live in snow country, drive 15,000-20,000 miles a year

Priorities: Reliability & durability / Handling / Ride smoothness / Rear seat room & comfort / Fuel economy

Preferred Bodystyle(s): SUV

Car Needs: Daily commuter / Family transporter / Errands about town / Long trips / Towing or hauling

Need minimum of 7 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 100000
Maximum age: 4 years

Maximum price: US $ 40000

How heavy is your boat and trailer? You'll probably want the smallest vehicle that does the job to minimize barginess. I think the dictionary definition of "land barge" has a picture of a Suburban next to it. And if the Armada/QX 56 had sold more, their pictures would be there as well. Maybe there are smaller vehicle+tow package options that give you the required towing capacity? Even a Honda Pilot or something like that?

Any thoughts of a two vehicle solution? Get a low center of gravity vehicle that is actually fun to drive, plus a cheap people/toy mover?

You want a Dodge Durango. Plenty of towing capacity and interior space but feels far less massive than the vehicles you mention, partly because it isn't as wide. Very good handling for this sort of vehicle, and even a more comfortable third row (for two people) than the larger vehicles you mention. If you get a 2014+ with the V6 both performance and fuel economy are pretty good. 2014 was the first year of a refresh, though, so if possible try to get a 2015 within your budget.
