You will have to go to the dealer to put your dog crate in the trunk of these SUVs because there is not really a way we know if it fits in these cars. Trunks are shaped differently in different cars even though we know the cargo volume. Pretty much any car will hold your dog crate; it is just how many seats you need while carrying your crate. Although minivans will suit you so much better (because of large cargo space, lower liftover height than SUVs, and general practicality), I'll give you SUVs with a low lift over. The Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna are the best cars for you.

My first SUV suggestion is the 2013 Toyota RAV4. Legendary reliability, could definitely fit a dog crate, long list of standard features, and decently comfortable.

The Kia Soul has a low lift over being a wagon. Very practical, good on gas, 10 year/100k mile warranty (under certain conditions CPO, dealer, etc.), not as comfortable as the RAV4, reliable, good looking.

The Mazda CX-5 is a fun choice. Not as practical as the other two, but is reliable, fun to drive, good looking.

The GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Equinox, and Buick Envision all will fit a 36" dog crate width wise in the rear cargo area. Not that I'd recommend it on a hot day as the rear ventilation for the cargo area is lacking in any 2-row cuv. These models also have sliding rear seat that adds about 9 imches to the cargo area if you wanted to have the crate longitudally as the seats recline and can be put up in an upright position.

If you wanted to put the crate longitudally like have it behind the drivery so the dog gets airflow and is next to a window, the Buick Envision has a 60/40 split seat allowing at least on person to sit next to the dog in the back seat. The Buick Encore also has split folding rear seat along with front folding passenger seat for extra length. The 2018 Terrain and Equinox also have front passenger seat that fold flat.

Our 36" crate is 24" wide and fits in all of those examples above. If you are looking at a 3-row crossover the crate will not fit in with all seats up, the biggest crossover in the segment: Traverse, Acadia, and Enclave.
