Member6325

Hi,I'm lokking for the next car after dukes of hazarding my 2001 Saab 9-5 on a snowy feb day in western MN. I need daily performance at a fairly high level for my commute, traffic you ask , no, time management. I'm not rolling in it so its gotta be on the cheaper side, if ther is such a thing. It should also look like about 5 milliion bucks, not gawdy just tight. I'm a soon to be real-estate agent and will need something presentable to clients. There you have it.

Priorities: Price or payments / Exterior styling / Handling

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Sedan

Car Needs: Daily commuter / Errands about town / Long trips / Client-facing / Fun toy

Primary Driver(s): Tall driver

Need minimum of 4 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 80000
Maximum age: 2006 years

Maximum price: US $ 10000

An interesting dillema; something affordable that says successful/I know what I'm doing, but not ostentatious. If you've got a good "SAAB whisperer" mechanic locally who charges reasonable rates, maybe another SAAB would work? They depreciate so quickly that for the money, they look very nice. And of course the performance is there. Obviously you'll need to budget more for repair and maintenance than for a Honda or something like that, but I'm sure you're aware of that at this point.

If you're ready to move on from a SAAB, you're right at the border of being able to afford an 06 Acura TL/TLX. Maybe you could find a good deal on one or relax the requirements and it would get within your budget. The bonus will be that Honda reliability. Probably won't quite match the SAAB performance though.

In general, though, if you're serious about getting the most impressive and reliable car for the money, you'll just have to see what's available locally. Look for good deals (private party sales, Craigslist, cars at different branded dealerships, etc) and see if you can find something well taken care of a bit below kbb values. Cast a wide net for an Acura, Lexus, Infinity, etc and see what you come up with.

Within these criteria you might be able to find an Infiniti G35 or an Acura TL (or the slightly more compact TLX), but it's going to be tough.

You can probably find a 3, C, or A4, but once they're approaching ten years old any of these can be quite troublesome. Or they could be solid. It's a crapshoot, so few people will advise you to buy one, lest they be blamed for whatever happens.

Any chance a Ford Fusion would pass muster with clients? Within your budget you could get a 2011-2012 with heated leather seats. The only year with iffy reliability is 2010.
