Considered Forester, concerned about reliabilty. Coming from 11 yr old Civic, over 150,000, no problems until 9 yrs old, and nothing terrible. Was able to just do oil changes and then tires/brakes/etc. as needed, never did any other maintaince. Would like to be able to abuse new car in a similar way with similar results :-). Also thinking about CRV but Honda hasn't been offering low financing that I qualify for (not a recent grad!) even tho I have excellent credit. Now wondering ifI should be considering Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. RAV4 didn't pass crash test and Mazda is supposed to be a stiff/uncomfortable ride over time.

Priorities: Reliability & durability / Price or payments / Fuel economy / Driving position & visibility / Safety & braking

Preferred Bodystyle(s): SUV

Car Needs: Daily commuter / Errands about town / Long trips

Primary Driver(s): Short driver

Need minimum of 4 seats

Will consider new cars only

Maximum price: US $ 30000

A friend of mine bought a CRV a while back, and like your Civic he only had to put gas and oil in it, he usually deals his cars every four or five years, but he kept his CRV for seven years because it was so good to him. His next car was a RAV-4, he has had it for Five Years now, and same thing, only Gas and oil. He would have bought another CRV but he found the Honda Dealership very arrogant and unwilling to "deal", so he walked out the door, went to a Toyota Dealership and bought a RAV-4 and has been extremely happy with it, I think it looks more "COOL" than the CRV. Another friend of mine just bought a new CRV (loaded) he LOVES it, and the new ones look much more "COOL" than they used to. I'm sure he will only have to put gas and oil in it. They sure have a good track record in the Consumer Report Buyers Guide, and the Dealership weenies have the attitude to match it.

From what I understand the Forester has been very reliable (at least according to Consumer Reports data). The CR-V and RAV-4 should also be reliable. The CR-V has a nice ride. My brother drove the new RAV-4 and was not too impressed with the interior or the ride (he had leased the prior generation RAV-4). Another choice is the Subaru Cross-Trek. The Mazda Cx-5 drives very well although is a bit noisier. Hope this helps.

Subarus sometimes get expensive after 100k miles. CR focuses on the first three years, so they de-emphasize this tendency. The latest ones could hold up better, but it's far too soon to tell. The latest Forester is a far better vehicle than the CR-V in most other ways. I'm not a big fan of the CR-V, as it doesn't do much very well.

I wouldn't get an Outlander Sport. Not remotely competitive.

The latest RAV4 rides more harshly than the Mazda. But the Subaru has the best ride of the bunch in my experience.

If you can live with a smaller vehicle, Honda will be offering the Fit-based HR-V for 2015.

My parents financed a Mercedes they recently bought because USAA's rate was just 0.7 percent. Your credit could qualify you for such a low rate that it just wouldn't matter that Honda isn't offering a subsidized rate.

Thanks everyone, I bought a 2014 CRV EX AWD and so far I LOVE it! The dealership I went to was super easy to deal with and I got it for BELOW INVOICE and finance didn't try to sell me anything! (The internet is your friend people, get e-quotes from several dealers and get them to compete for your business without ever setting foot on a lot!)
