Looking at a used Hyundai Genesis 2012 model and up

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member5923

I've always driven Nissan cars and had the Atima V6 until I tried a smaller Hyundai Veloster which is a great small car.
i have been looking online and a used 2012 Genesis looks great and has more features and quieter than a Veloster.
Hyundai's reliability has also reached a point where it can compete with Japaneses cars.

So has any had a Genesis sedan and how did you like it? What's the maintainance cost look like? Insurance rates on it, etc?

Thanks in advance.

Priorities: Quietness / Audio & nav systems / Insurance cost

Preferred Bodystyle(s): Sedan

Car Needs: Daily commuter

Need minimum of 4 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 30000
Maximum age: 5 years

Maximum price: US $ 25000

For good discussions by owners, check out genesisowners.com.

You'll find quite a bit of reliability and repair record information on the Genesis on our site. There have been a few common problems with things like the power adjustments for the steering column. A very good used car for the money overall.

My main problem with it: the 2015 and up second-generation Genesis is a much better, truly outstanding car. Used 2015s are currently around $30k, but in the next year or so I bet you could get one for $25k. If you can wait until one is within your budget, that's what I'd do.

The 1st generation Genesis looked good inside and out, but didn't DRIVE as good as it looks. In particuar, the suspension tuning leaves quite a bit to be desired. It's just not well-sorted, being both floaty AND crashy in equal measure - not a good combination for a near-luxury car.

For a much better all-around car, try a Chevy Impala LTZ - seriously.

They fiddled with the suspension for the 2012 update, but true that it never rode or handled as good as the European sedans it aspired to compete with. Some people mind, other's don't.

The 2015 does ride and handle far better.

The Impala is a very good all-around car, and I find I like the styling more and more. But it lacks an upscale look or feel.

The Kia Cadenza does somewhat better in this regard. It's probably also worth a look. In my review (linked beneath the pic) I compared it to the Impala.
