Honda and Subaru hold their value the best. You can get a Hyundai for less, but expect rapid depreciation even with the quality build they have now. You can get a used 2010 Genesis with 40k miles for well under $20,000. A wonderful vehicle and remember it was a $40,000 car new, and more if it was loaded with features.

Toyota, with Honda a close second.

Subaru seems to be more reliable tho I love the way vw's drive.
