Performance sedan/coupe

I own a 2009 IS350 and have enjoyed the car over about 40k miles. Like the BMW, it does go through OEM tires, but otherwise has been trouble free. I prefer the styling of the older IS to the BMW. Not a fan of the new style. Cabin is small so it's tight for me (6ft 3) and back seat room is tight. I think this is typical for this class car. handling and power are great. MPG is 24 overall, 30 on highway at 75 mph. If you are shopping used, I would suspect you are more likely to find a gently used Lexus than a BMW. IMHO Lexus dealers are nicer.

What's the year of the BMW? First year for the 335i was 2007. Definitely less reliable than the Lexus at that age. 2008s also troublesome. The 2009 3s are looking good at the moment, but this could be a lull after the end of the original warranty. (The 2010s, currently at the end of that warranty, are requiring repairs.)

The Infiniti G35 is worth a look, as it sort of splits the difference between the two in both handling and reliability.

Our repair-odds stats suggest how often each required a repair in the past year. It's not rare to have a problem-free BMW, just less common.And I don't see reliability among your priorities :) Sample sizes too small to have these for the Lexus. It does have a heavier feel than the other two, but a strong, great-sounding V6.

Definately check out the G35 sedan or if your in the market for a new car the all new Q50. I have to say the older G35 sedans look very boring, more like a Toyota however the newer ones (especially the Q50) are dead sexy. All the infinitys are generally more reliable than BMW but less so than the Lexus, however the Infinitys are much more fun to drive than Lexus. If you want a 4th option I would also recommend an Acura TL which is a mix bag or reliability, front drive fun (better for cold weather) and styling.

The Z has the same engine as the G37, just a little less weight and a lot more road noise.

If your budget extended into the low 30s a 2008 Lexus IS F would be a possibility--no power delivery issues there.
