I have been researching used E91 328i's, so I have a few thoughts. You can get tons of info on the Bimmer forums, but take it all with a grain of salt. E90 BMW 325i's can be very reliable cars as the BMW has been refining the reliable inline 6 for several generations. Just keep in mind that any BMW getting into high mileage will have expensive maintenance that you need to stay ahead of. They are high maintenance, but not unreliable......... I wouldn't do it unless you are ready to do a lot of maintenance yourself or have a great local independant BMW service shop to work on it.... will save you lots of money.

You might note in your search how many used BMW's are for sale with 98,000 miles. This is because many ditch before the 100,000 mile service. You might budget $2k the first year for the 100,000 mile service and other neglect that you might run into. Could be far less with a good indy shop. I think these have timing chains and not belts?

One more thing, if you can try to bring the car to an independent shop before buying for a third party inspection......... Good luck!

Owned one for about 3 years. No issues but then it didn't get to high miles. Very good handling, steering feel, even w/o the sport pkg. I put 18" wheels on to replace the stock 16" runflats and bought a spare to toss in the trunk for long trips. Not fast, but feels quick enough. I found the seat back a litttle narrow and would get comfort issues on long trips after several hours. Ride is decent but not luxury car soft. Very stable at high speeds and it makes long trips less fatiguing or nerve wracking in heavy traffic at high speed.

We have owned two prior E39 5 series with higher miles and they did see the shop for repairs fairly often (60K plus miles). Repairs aren't cheap on BMWs even at independent shops.

This gen definitely has better steering than newer ones. This engine and its larger displacement 3.0 version is probably BMW's most reliable. But should a major component go it could cost much of what the car is worth. So definitely look for a well-cared for example and have it inspected. Insist on all maint records.

We have a Volvo S60 R design now and find it much more comfortable at the cost of giving up some steering feel. But the 325i was a solid car.
