The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member3264

This will be a second car, and it will be used, mostly, in city driving. I have looked at Civics and Corollas, and they seem fine. The car has to have a manual, so no hybrids, other than the pre-2006 Civics, are possible. I am getting rid of our 1999 G20, and I am hoping to get at least 20% better gas milage in the replacement vehicle (30+mpg vs 25mpg--almost all city). I enjoy driving, but I sold our 325 wagon last year because the costs were starting to outweigh the pleasures of driving it. We replaced that car with a 2013 Mazda3, and have enjoyed the car greatly. I would go with an older Mazda3, but the MPGs are just not very good; I love getting 38--41 miles to the gallon every tankful in the new Mazda (almost all highway miles).

Car Needs: Errands about town

Primary Driver(s): Tall driver

Need minimum of 4 seats

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 100000
Maximum age: 10 years

Maximum price: US $ 9000

You don't want an early Civic Hybrid, they're too often nightmares.

For fun-to-drive, practicality, in-town fuel efficiency, and reliability it's probably hard to beat a Honda Fit. The biggest problem with the Fit is that it commands relatively high prices as a used car.

To get more car for the price, check out the 2008-2011 Ford Focus. The upper trim levels in particular have taut chassis tuning, reliability seems good, and they sell for considerably less than the equivalent Honda or Toyota.
