Your stated priority list seems to favor the Lexus but your stated car needs favor the BMW. IMO, if you buy the Lexus, you'll always wonder what you missed by not choosing the BMW. Buy the BMW and an extended warranty, follow the maintenance schedule, and enjoy it for a few years until the warranty expires. After that you can buy reliable (and some BMW's are reliable, they just aren't as ubiquitous).

I've owned German and Japanese but I only remember the joy of driving German.

The IS250 simply doesn't have enough engine for this class of car. The IS350 is much more fun to drive than the IS250, even for people (like me) who aren't all that into horsepower.

For something that combines aspects of each, check out the Infiniti G37.

With any German car 6+ years old, you've got to have a tolerance for 1-2 repairs per year. Some people take these in stride. Others...shouldn't be buying German cars of this age. So it really depends on which sort of car owner your are.

Have you extensively driven the candidates? If so, how much more did you like driving the BMW?

Infiniti G

I like hp but it's not a priority, that being said, I don't like having a vehicle that is gutless.
Handling andgreat ridecan quickly be replaced by frustration and dislike ifplagued by consistant, if only minor, problems.
I have not had or driven any Lexus or BMW cars.
I did have a G35x. It was a beautiful car, loads of power and great handling.
I sold it because I couldn't stand the road noise. I could not enjoy drilving the car because of the tire noise.
Seems to be quite a common complaint with the Infiniti G's.
The Goodyears that came with it and the Michelin MXV4s that replaced them were noisey. No one can convince me that the right tires will make any difference. They just plain forgot to insulate the vehicle properly.
I'm afraid that the Lexus may have the similar problem, it doesn't appear to be that prominent for the BMW's.

The second-generation G37 was quieter, but whether it's quiet enough is a matter for you to decide.

The IS should be at least as quiet as the 3-Series. If more people are complaining about noise in the Lexus, this could be due to differing expectations.

With the BMW, many owners complain about the ride quality of the standard run-flat tires.

If quietness is a priority, the Buick Regal might be worth a look. But its reliability has been iffy and AWD wasn't offered until 2014.

I would agree that the quietest cars are probably domestic.

When my 2006Mazda B4000 pickup is quieter than an Infiniti G, what's wrong here Infiniti?
Expectations is right, I expect a luxury car to be relatively quiet. I have no expectatons of
quietness from an old truck!

I do like the Cadillac ATS, but again they are too new.
