Safe reliable SUV for Commuting Working Grandma

The Right Car for Me | TrueDelta

Member6143

Have been driving Chevy Suburbans (bus) for last 15 years and looking for a little smaller (and sportier) vehicle for Dallas traffic and parking. I don\'t think I can get used to riding lower to ground again. Need safety and reliability since I travel to visit children/grand children (400 miles one way) and we travel together as well to visit other family. Looking to buckle child carseat in center of second row seating. Have looked at Toyota Highlander (need 6 cyl. engine/power for passing) and 4-Runner, Infinity FX35 (drivers seat sat to low for visual comfort) and Chevy Tahoe. Friends suggest truck but I like covered locked storage while shopping after a trip to the lumber yard then to grocery store etc. :) I don't really need off road abilities but do occasionally have snow each winter. Quiet smooth ride preferred.

Will consider both new and used cars
Maximum mileage: 30000
Maximum age: 3 years

Maximum price: US $ 40000

Do you need three rows, or two rows is enough?

Among vehicles with three rows, the Highlander is probably the most reliable, and is pretty comfortable. But not very sporty. The 2014 is nicer than the previous generation.

The 4Runner is very reliable, but isn't as quick, as smooth-riding, or as fuel efficient as the Highlander. Unless you need to go off-road, the Highlander is better.

The 2013 and newer Hyundai Santa Fe drives more like a car, but not everyone likes how it rides. It's worth a look. If you can get by with less space, Kia offers the Sorento.

For a bit more luxury and sportiness, the Acura MDX is worth a look. The 2014 drives especially well, but has been a little troublesome in its first model year. The 2015 will probably be less glitchy. A base 2015 MDX will be right around your maximum.
