Only dealer service was when new and completely covered by warranty. Since then, nothing but a dragging rear caliper that I believe is related to the electric parking brake. 2013	4dr SUV turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic AWD	I bought this car new for my wife and after 7 years and 73000 miles she still loves the car. Reasonable level of refinement, small on the outside but big on the inside, easy to park and still looks great when its clean. 2012	2dr Hatch 170-horsepower 2.5L I5 5-speed manual FWD	The car is not old, but so far, so good. Oil changes are required only every 10K miles at first, and the first three are taken care of - not a high-price incentive, certainly, but a nice touch. I haven't had a single cause for alarm so far, and the car operates as it did on the day I bought it. VW has an iffy reputation in the US right now, but it's also said that quality control is best in Wolfsburg, where this car is assembled, and for what its worth, Consumer Reports ranked the MK6 Golf well above average for projected reliability. see full Volkswagen review

2011	4dr Wagon 170-horsepower 2.5L I5 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD	I avoided VW products for 30 years until one of their models (the Golf) started posting above-average reliability ratings. Unfortunately, we seem to be having one of the old-style experiences with our Jetta Sportwagen (Golf Wagon here in Canada). 2011	4dr SUV turbocharged 225hp 3.0L V6 Diesel 8-speed shiftable automatic AWD	Had issues with the Adblue heater and replaced that. Also sometimes the Glowplug light turns on after a start in the morning, and have the odd NOX sensor check engine light come on. But in both cases after several restarts and a good heavy foot drive on the highway the issues disappears. So crossing my fingers that these do not become long term issues and requires repairs. see full Volkswagen review

2013	4dr Hatch turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed manual FWD	There is a major potential problem with the Golf TDI in the form of the high pressure fuel pump. The concern is that the Bosch unit does not like American low sulfur diesel fuel because of its relatively lower lubricity compared to Euro diesel fuels available where the car was designed. When the pump fails, it can send metal shavings throughout the fuel system, and require major replacements to the tune of $8-10,000. This is a sword of Damocles hanging over the head of any TDI owner. Three or more design revisions have been implemented, but the problem still shows up. 2011	4dr Wagon turbocharged 140hp 2.0L I4 Diesel 6-speed automated manual FWD	Other than one software glitch when new, this car has given us no problems at all. That is an accomplishment for VW. I have owned Passats and an Audi A4, and both were subject to engine-related recalls. So far, so good with the TDI! 2010	4dr SUV turbocharged 200hp 2.0L I4 6-speed shiftable automatic FWD	I've had it in the shop 3 times for parts replacements in 2 years: rear brake rotors in first 6 months, then oil pressure relief valve necessitating replacing entire head gasket, then faulty fuel pump relay.
