Updated the “most popular” list — and a Buick is in the top 20

I’d update the list of the 40 most common price comparisons more often, but it simply doesn’t change that much. I just updated it for the first time in 75 days, and it only goes back 90. Despite the minimal amount of overlap between the two periods, and the fact that the new totals include considerable traffic over the last few weeks from The Truth About Cars, the new list is very similar to the new one.

One again, Hondas dominate. There’s at least one Honda or Acura in 23 of the 40 comparisons. I think the proportion has been even higher in the past, but this is pretty high.

Especially when you consider that until recently there was not a single General Motors product on the entire list, and usually just a couple Fords or Chryslers. It seems that people who research their purchases on the Internet don’t even consider domestic cars.

And then we have the Buick Enclave. It became the first GM product to ever appear on the list back in April. And in the 35th most popular comparison, it was barely on the list.

Well, this time the Buick Enclave–compared to a Honda product, the Acura MDX, of course–has risen to #18. I’ve been seeing it in the Honda forums, and this confirms it: GM has actually managed to create a product that Honda owners are seriously considering, and even buying.

The only other domestic on the list: the Ford Fusion sedan. If I had to guess, I’d say it was being compared to the Honda Accord. But it turns out that the Fusion is compared more often to three other cars, and the Toyota Camry most of all.

No doubt there are other insights to be drawn from this list. Feel free to post them as comments.
