I’ve uploaded pricing and features for the new 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT. This hatchback variant of Hyundai’s compact was developed primarily for the European market, so it’s more of a driver’s car than the Elantra sedan. With the Style Package (you want it) the GT lists for $21,920. This is about $1,100 more than the car it replaces, the Elantra Touring. But adjust for feature differences using TrueDelta’s car price comparison tool, and the new car is actually almost $900 less–it includes about $2,000 in additional features you simply couldn’t get on the old car.
The situation is much the same with the 2012 Elantra sedan (the 2013 will be priced a few hundred higher). Equip both with an automatic transmission and leather upholstery, and the Elantra GT lists for nearly $1,000 more. But adjust for its extensive additional features, such as a 10-way power driver seat and Blue Link, and it’s then $1,500 less.
Compared to the Focus Focus, the Elantra GT is about $3,600 less before adjusting for feature differences, and still over $3,000 less afterwards. I like driving the Ford more, but do I like it $3,000 more?
If you’re looking for a feature rich compact hatchback, the Elantra GT seems to be a strong contender.
